Di era yang semakin modern ini, semua bisa diganti dengan teknologi. Banyak aktivitas manusia yang diringankan dengan adanya temuan teknologi, salah satunya yaitu computer. Pada masa sekarang, computer telah banyak memiliki fungsi yang bahkan hampir menggantikan peran manusia di dalamnya. Komputer sendiri semenjak awal ditemukannya hingga sekarang ini, telah mengalami banyak perkembangan. Mulai dari bentuk, system, kinerjanya, dan banyak lagi. Sebelum lanjut pada pembahasan utama, hendaknya kita mengerti terlebih dahulu sejarah singkat dari objek yang kita bicarakan.

Sejarah Singkat Komputer

Komputer berasal dari kata Computare yang artinya menghitung. Secara bahasa komputer didefinisikan sebagai alat yang melakukan proses perhitungan aritmatika.

Jadi pada jaman dahulu, fungsi komputer adalah sebagai alat bantu hitung manusia.Seorang pakar matematika yang bernama Charles Babbage asal Inggris merupakan orang pertama di dunia yang berani berkirim surat pada para ahli di kerajaan Inggris untuk mengembangkan alat hitung mekanik yakni komputer.

Secara umum, Komputer didefinisikan sebagai seperangkat alat elektronik yang mengubungkan komponen satu dengan yang lainnya sehingga menghasilkan informasi yang sebelumnya telah diolah terlebih dahulu.

Elemen-Elemen Komputer

Komputer terdiri dari 3 elemen yakni :

1.  Hardware (perangkat keras) seperti Processor, Harddisk, RAM, CPU, Motherboard. 

2. Software (perangkat lunak) seperti aplikasi- aplikasi.

3.  Brainware (pengguna).

Setelah membaca penjelasan singkat di atas, nampaknya sudah cukup membuat kita paham tentang gambaran computer, terutama untuk orang yang masih awam dengan peran computer pada kehidupan manusia sekarang ini. Selanjutnya, mengingat banyak sekali profesi yang memerlukan computer sebagai alat penunjang utama, maka para brand computer terbaik di dunia saling bersaing setiap saat untuk menciptakan pdoduk-produk baru dengan spesifikasi dewa, dan tentunya dengan harga yang bersaing pula. Hal tersebut menjadi peluang marketing yang sangat besar. Untuk kebutuhan arsitek sendiri, spesifikasi komputer yang dibutuhkan adalah spesifikasi yang lebih tinggi dibanding computer untuk kebutuhan pekerjaan lainnya. Arsitek memerlukan komputer dengan prosesor kelas menengah ke atas, kehadiran VGA card (bukan pengolah grafis yang ada di prosesor), dan juga layar yang lebih luas.
